Frequently Asked Questions

Can anyone attend Open Gyms?

All 7th and 8th grade girls are welcome to attend. It is a great way to meet new people and play volleyball in a fun environment.

*Registration will open in May.

My daughter attends a public school but will attend Alter as a Freshman, can she try out for KFV?

KFV is proud to offer an opportunity for girls who attend a Catholic elementary school and do not have the same access to volleyball in junior high as their public school counterparts. While we appreciate your interest in our program, note that our focus is on providing these opportunities to Catholic school students.

My daughter may or may not attend Alter as a Freshman, can she try out for KFV?

We understand that not all the area Catholic high schools offer a feeder program. We also understand that you have choices when it comes to which high school your child will attend. We open the program to any girl who is considering attending Alter high school.

How many teams do we offer?

We offer one team for 7th graders, and one team for 8th graders. Teams will not exceed 12 players, unless decided by the coaches and staff.

How long does the season run?

The season runs August-October.

*The 2025 schedule will be posted in May.

When do teams practice?

Teams will practice 1-2 times per week. 7th and 8th grade practice at the same time, at the same location, on separate courts. Teams may combine practices or scrimmage at the discretion of the coaches. One practice will always be Sunday afternoon/evenings at Alter High School. Additional practices (TBD) will occur during the week at a secondary facility and will be scheduled around matches. Practices will begin at the end of July.

Does KFV play any home matches?

Due to the nature of the feeder program, all matches are considered away scrimmages. Athletes are required to find their own transportation to and from matches. However, we do host one "home" match, a Quad Match, in September. We do not participate in an end-of-season tournament.

What is KFVs policy on playing time?

Playing time is 100% determined by the coach. Playing time is earned, not given. However, we do believe players deserve the opportunity to have playing time in each match, if possible. Please understand this does not mean equal playing time for all athletes.

What is the tryout process?

Tryouts will take place in July. Players will all be assigned a tryout number upon arriving at tryouts.

What is the cost?

The Participation Fee for 2024 is $300 for the season, due August 1st. Cash, Check or Venmo accepted.

What is the "24 HOUR RULE?"

We believe it is important for parent's to separate their child's sports development from game-time emotions. For this reason, we have a “24 HOUR RULE” which simply states, that coaches and staff will not discuss a game, or situation in a game, until at minimum 24 hours after the fact.

What is KFV's affiliation with Alter High School athletics?

Knights Feeder Volleyball is not affiliated; however, Alter's administration is updated on the planning of the program. Alter's coaching staff is consulted on matters, such as coaching and training methods, pertaining to the program and how it affects the high school teams. In addition, KFV practices once a week on Alter's campus. With those minor exceptions, the KFV is managed completely independent of Alter High School.
